Why we should use a treadmill at home instead of running outside home during COVID-19?

COVID-19 has created a pandemic situation across the world. Most of the countries are going through the lockdown. The novel virus has already claimed more than 4 million lives so far. Thousands are reported infected every day. Countries like the USA, UK, Italy, Spain, Brazil suffered the most. As of now, there is no specific medication for COVID-19.
Maintaining social distancing and leading a healthy lifestyle has become extremely important. Doctors and health experts have advised that one way to keep the deadly virus at bay would be to strengthen our immunity system. One way to achieve that would be exercising regularly. If you have a garden or backyard then running outdoor can be a good option. But in most of the urban setup, this facility is very limited. Besides, staying outdoor is not very safe.

So, you can think about setting up a small gym at hour home. If you don’t have enough space then you can think about installing a small treadmill. It doesn’t occupy much space. In addition to this, a treadmill is a piece of very good and effective equipment. If you want to stay fit and don’t have time to visit your nearest gym, then this can be a good option. First of all, it will not burn a hole in your pocket. Secondly, running on a treadmill can be a very effective way to boost our immune system.
There are several benefits of running on a treadmill. First of all, it is very convenient to set up a treadmill at home. It provides you a controlled environment where you can set the pace, interval. When people run outdoor there are chances that you might get injured. But with a treadmill that is a distant reality. However, it should be clarified that running outside or running on a treadmill requires the same amount of energy. In other words, your body needs the same amount of Oxygen which is required when you run outdoors. Hence, both kinds of exercise are going to give you the same benefits.
It cannot be refuted that running in the lap of nature is an unmatched experience and no gym will be able to provide that. So, given a chance of running outdoor and running on a treadmill, an athlete or fitness enthusiast would prefer the first alternative. But keeping in mind the current situation, it would be a wise decision to reduce your outdoor activities. Unless it is very urgent, don’t step out of your home.

Maintaining social distancing is easy if you are doing exercise at home. But that might become a tough task if you run outside. Doctors have advised us to maintain at least 6 feet distance from others when we are outside. But experts admit that this is not enough. As per a report published in NPR, new researches have indicated that standard social distancing measures might not be enough as far as preventing COVID-19 is concerned. “If you’re running and you happen to be infected, you might release more virus into the air than if you’re walking because you’re breathing harder,” says Linsey Marr, a professor of civil and environmental engineering at Virginia Tech with and an expert in airborne disease transmission.

So, according to Marr, when people are running outside or doing any outdoor activities, instead of 6 feet distance, they should maintain at least 10-12 feet distance from other runners or other people. This is not always possible when you step out of your home. France is one of the European countries which has been devastated by the wrath of coronavirus. The situation became so horrible that a nationwide lockdown was announced by the French government. Running and all kinds of outdoor sports were banned between 10 am to 7 pm in Paris.

As doctors and health experts have been repeatedly telling us to stay active during this lockdown phase, it is of paramount importance that you exercise at least for some minutes every day. With most of the gyms closed, people are trying to find new ways to burn their extra calories. Many online tools provide people the necessary support to train indoors. A treadmill can be useful in this regard.
