The Houston Marathon 2023 Race Information

The Chevron Houston Marathon 2023 is only 21 days away, slated for January 15, 2023, in Houston, Texas. It will be the 51st anniversary, having started in 1972, and is considered the biggest annual event in Texas.

With more than 27,000 participants ready to take on the marathon challenge, the city attracts over 250,000 people who come to cheer the athletes at every turn adding to the day's excitement. 

The Chevron Houston Marathon event attracts elite runners who use the platform for the prestigious Boston Marathon Qualifier that comes later in the year.

Houston Marathon 2023 Route

The route remains unchanged from the previous years and will start at Minute Maid Park near the George R. Brown Convention Center. After the loop, the course heads downtown Houston and approaches the finish via the leafy suburbs at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

Houston Marathon 2023 is fast and flat, making it ideal for athletes to attempt to break course records each year. 

Houston Marathon Course Records

The Houston Marathon course is ranked as the second fastest marathon in the world. Four world records have been broken in this fast-paced event.

The current course record for the men's category is 2:06:51, held by Tariku Jufar (ETH) in 2012. The women's course record was broken early this year by Keira D'Amato, who also managed to break the national record-setting time of 2:19:12. (2022)

Registration

Registrations for the Chevron Houston marathon are ongoing and will conclude when all the slots have been claimed. You can register online on the Official Houston Marathon Website.

The entry prices vary depending on when you buy. Consider early registration. 

● tier 1 — $140,

● tier 2 — $150,

● tier 3 — $160,

● tier 4 — $170,

● tier 5 — $180.

Starting Point

Participants will be classified into five categories based on previous race results recorded when registering.

The marathon start time is 7:01 am, and the cut-off time is 6 hours. The roads will re-open, and athletes that wouldn't have finished may continue to run on the pavement. There are no awards or medals if you spend past the cut-off time.

Defer, Transfer, Refund

The Chevron Houston marathon is a non-profit event and will issue no refunds. There are also no transfers or defers of entries to next year's event.

Prize Money

The prize money is $ 188,000, to be shared among top finishers. Both men and women will receive equal sums. There is a cash bonus for athletes that break the course record.

Race Pack and Bib number

Race packs and bib numbers should be collected before race day. There are no postal deliveries. The pick-up point is at the Houston Marathon Health & Fitness EXPO on the 3rd floor of George R. Brown Convention Centre Hall B.

● Saturday,14 January 2023: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.
