London Marathon 2023 Update

The London marathon date is back and will be run in Spring on Sunday, 23 April 2023, changing from the October autumn date in 2019. The iconic event is set to attract big athletic personalities in both the men's and women's full-marathon categories.

The London Marathon is only four months away, and more than 90,000 participants are expected to participate in the annual event. It's time to make race preparations and training to ensure that you are fit before the race day.

Amos Kipruto is aiming to beat the London Marathon course record set by fellow Kenyan compatriot and world record holder Eliud Kipchoge who ran the distance in 2:02:37.

If you plan to participate in the championship race, you have up to Friday, 6 January 2023, to submit your application. The London Marathon will also feature the UK championship's total marathon distance. Ensure that you meet the qualifications for the championship race

Summary of qualifications

· Your qualifying time should be run on a course approved by the Association for International Marathons Distance and Races—AIMS.

· Be a registered member of your national governing body. (Athletics Kenya, Scotland Athletics, England Athletics, Welsh Athletics, etc.). Kindly confirm your registration with your national governing body to avoid last-minute rush and inconvenience.

· The London marathon 2023 championship qualifying times should be current and run on a certified course between 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2022.

Championship course

The race starts at Blackheath Greenwich park and has three start points determined by the bib color you will be allocated. The red bib takes you through Charlton while green and blue bibs merge on Old Dover road. The pack will join the red route at John Wilson Street.

Virtual Running the London Marathon 2023

The London Marathon 2023 is expected to attract huge crowds and involve virtual participants. As the 50,000 men and women run the course physically, another 40,000 will participate virtually from wherever they are in the world.

How the Virtual Race Works

You have up to 24 hours to complete the 42 km marathon race. You can choose your route and location and take as many breaks as possible to complete the run. You can log in to the official TSC London Marathon App to track and log in your run.

Race cut-off time

The official cut-off time is 19:00 on race day. The course is among the fastest in the world, and it's expected to be competitive from start to finish. The current women's world record was set in the London marathon course in 2017 by Mary Keitany, who clocked 2:17:01.
